Photography for Reform Studio in Cairo
Good morning! Today I like to share with you my first assignment ever in Egypt, the photography of the new collection from Reform Studio.
Goedemorgen! Vandaag deel ik met jullie mijn allereerste opdracht ooit in Egypte, het fotograferen van de nieuwe collectie van Reform Studio.
Reform Studio
Last december I’ve met Hend and Mariam for the first time. We’re following each other on instagram and it was a good change while I was in Egypt to get to know each other. And then they asked me if I would photograph their new collection for Reform Studio. Ofcourse I would like that, my first assignment in Egypt ever, how cool is that?! Reform Studio has been founded by Hend and Mariam a couple of years ago after research regarding the plastic bag industry and especially a big issue in Egypt, waste. They did many experiments and finally came up with the first product called ‘Plastex’. Plastex is a eco-friendly material made by weaving plastic bags. These plastex is now used in stools, chairs and home/fashion accessoiries. I really love their unique product and the way they put all their love in these designs. I was more than happy to work with them to photograph their new Grammy’s collection.
Afgelopen december maakte ik kennis met Hend en Mariam. We volgden elkaar op instagram en mijn verblijf in Cairo was meteen een goede reden om af te spreken en elkaar te leren kennen. Ze hebben mij toen gevraagd of ik de fotografie wilde doen voor de nieuwe collectie van Reform Studio. Maar natuurlijk! Mijn allereerste opdracht in Egypte, hoe gaaf is dat? Reform studio is opgericht door Hend en Mariam na onderzoek te hebben gedaan naar de plastic tassen industrie en vooral ook naar een groot probleem in Egypte, afval. Ze hebben diverse experimenten gedaan en uiteindelijk hebben ze een eerste product op de markt gebracht, Plastex. Plastex is een mileu vriendelijk materiaal gemaakt van geweven plastic tassen. Het plastex wordt nu gebruikt in krukjes, stoelen en woon/mode accessoires. Ik ben helemaal weg van hun unieke product en vooral ook hoe zij al hun liefde stoppen in hun ontwerpen. Ik was dan ook super blij toen ze mij vroegen om de nieuwe Grammy’s collection te fotograferen.
Interior photography in Egypt
We did the photography in the Mona Hussein showroom in Designopolis in Sheikh Zayed. We worked on different settings like the big dining table with 8 chairs and also some small settings. It was really nice to work with Hend and Mariam and we were happy with these first results. The day before the photoshoot I have been to PopUp shop in Downtown Katameya mall where I shopped some home accessoiries to use for the styling. In my first Cairo video I give you a view behind the scenes for this shopping. Unfortunatelly I didn’t filmed this Reform photoshoot but they made a nice behind the scenes shot!
De photoshoot vond plaats in de showroom van Mona Hussein in Designopolis in Sheikh Zayed. We hebben gewerkt aan verschillende settings zoals de grote eettafel met 8 stoelen maar ook wat kleinere settings. Het was erg fijn om te werken met Hend en Mariam en we zijn beiden dan ook erg blij met het resultaat. De dag voor de photoshoot ben ik gaan shoppen voor wat woonaccessoires bij PopUp shop in Downtown Katameya mall. In mijn eerste Cairo video geef ik een kijkje achter de schermen tijdens het shoppen. Helaas heb ik niet gefilmd tijdens deze fotografie dag maar ze hebben wel een leuke foto gemaakt met een kijkje achter de schermen.
Style Reform in your home
This new Grammy’s collection consists of different chairs in a warm yet chique colour scheme with colours such as black, white, purple, teal and a touch of yellow. I like the chairs to be mixed together at the dining table or a single piece for your desk. The chairs are an eyecatcher in every space and I would love to use these chairs in one of my projects in the future. The stools from the other collections are also really nice, might take them to The Netherlands with me, what do you think?
De nieuwe Grammy’s collectie bestaat uit verschillende stoelen met een warme en chique kleurenpalet bestaande uit kleuren als zwart, wit, paars, teal en een klein beetje geel. Ik vind het mooi om de stoelen te mixen aan de eettafel of juist een enkel stuk achter je bureau te plaatsen. De stoelen zijn een echte eyecatcher in de ruimte en ik wil ze graag eens gebruiken in een van mijn toekomstige projecten. De krukjes van de andere collecties zijn ook prachtig, misschien neem ik die wel eens mee naar Nederland, wat denk jij?
